Jungkook Happy Birthday Rapping Advertisement

Korea's KTX has placed a full-page advertisement outside the train for the first time in 16 years. A 20-car train was posted celebrating the birthday of Jungkook, a member of the seven-member idol group BTS.


Korail posted a 20-car train with a rap advertisement celebrating BTS Jungkook's birthday. Wrapping is a method of promoting the advertisement design or advertisement contents by attaching them to buildings or transportation such as buses, taxis, and so on. From the front engine room to the rear engine room, the 388-meter-long train posted phrases and photos celebrating Jungkook's birthday.

Rapping Ad Reason

The wrapping advertisement was requested by Jungkook's Chinese fan club through the distribution of Korail, a subsidiary of Korail, in mid-August. Korail said, "The message was to run the wrapped train on September 1, Jungkook's birthday."

There are many ads on subway station billboards celebrating the birthday of their favorite celebrity, but the proposal to put a wrap advertisement on the entire train, including KTX, was unprecedented.


Korail, who was asked to accept the request, was considering whether to accept the request because it was the first and last time KTX posted an advertisement for a news agency in 2004, although there have been rapping advertisements for local tourist attractions and international events on trains such as National Railroad Line 1.

The executives who are negative about the wrapping advertisement are said to have argued that "the public corporation Korail's commercial advertisement on KTX, not promoting local governments or national events, could only cause controversy."

On the other hand, the proponents of acceptance argued that the new coronavirus infection caused passengers to drop sharply, requiring new revenue sources, and that it could be seen as a kind of foreign currency profit using the Korean Wave, especially K-POP, and that the awareness of the Korean high-speed railway could be improved if the wrapping advertisement is known abroad.

In the end, it was concluded that the company accepted the rap advertisement after much consideration, and "It is true that it is a burden to see the advertisement, but the management situation was so difficult, and it was widely believed that it could pioneer a new advertising market in the future and help the Korean Wave."

The photos and phrases of the advertisement to be wrapped in KTX were produced by the Chinese fan club, and Korail went through the process of deliberating whether the content was appropriate or not. The total cost of the advertisement is about 80 million won, including the cost of producing, attaching, and removing the wrapping advertisement.

Considering the fact that Jungkook's hometown is Busan, the train with the advertisement will be operated for a month until the end of this month, and it will first depart from Haengshin Station at 8:30 a.m. on September 1 and run about four times a day.
